PANCHANG ~ Vedic Hindu Calendar

PANCHANG ~ Vedic Hindu Calendar

Panchang is an ancient vedic science that helps in knowing when to synchronize your actions with good times to reduce obstacles and increase chances for success. “Panch” means five and “Ang” means parts in Sanskrit. A Panchang is made up of five parts based on the lunar calander. These are used for fixing Muhurthas and preparation of horoscopes and predictions by Astrologers.

Panchang of the day based on the calculations of time, latitude, longitude, planetary positions and timezone of your current place of living. It is consulted for finding and selecting an appropriate and auspicious time for important occasions, ceremonies or actions like marriage, education, travel, starting new business or project, examination, interview etc. The five parts of Panchang are described below :

(1) Tithi (lunar day)
(2) Nakshatra (constellation)
(3) Yoga (an auspicious moment)
(4) Karan (half of the part of Tithi)
(5) Vaar (day of the week)

(1) Thithi (lunar day) :

Tithi is the date according to the Hindu lunar calendar. The Hindu lunar calendar consists of a dark and a bright fortnight also called Krishna paksha and Shukla Paksha. Tithi is said to be complete when moon has 12 degree from the sun. when moon complete 12 degree each time one tithi is comptete. There are 30 tithis in a lunar month. There are several rituals and festivals associated with Tithis. Most of the festivals fall on the new moon day (amavsaya) or the full moon day (poornma). It is important to note that starting or ending of a Tithi depends upon the degree of Moon from that of Sun therefore a Tithi ends or starts at any time in a day not like the Modern Time when a date changes at midnight.

There are 30 tithis in a lunar month. In Indian Astrology, the calculation of the Tithis starts from Pratipada (The first day in each half of the lunar month) of the Shukla-Paksha. Tithis are as follows :

Each Nakshatra has a planetary lord used for Vimsottari Dasa and K.P. calculations. Nakshatra can be known with help of degrees of Moon in a particular sign at the time of birth. They are as follows :
The Indian astrologers believe that the combination of the last 15 Ghati of 'Uttarashadha Nakshatra' and the first 4 Ghati of the Shravani Nakshatra i.e. 19 Ghatis in all, constitute the 'Abhijeet Nakshatra' and this particular Nakshatra is considered to be very auspicious to begin a good work.

Each of the Karana is said to have its own influence and interpretation. ‘Vishti’ is considered the most inauspicious karana. No important or new work is done during the period of this karana.

5. Vaar (day of the week) :

Rahu Kaalam or Rahu Kaal

Rahu kaalam or Rahu Kaal is a certain amount of time every day that is considered inauspicious for any new venture according to Vedic astrology. In Hindu mythology, Rahu Kaalam is one of the eight segments of the day and considered inauspicious period in Indian astrology due to its associated with malefic Rahu . This period is ruled by Rahu. Rahu kaalam differs from place to place depending upon Sunrise and Sunset time. According to Vedic astrology a person should not undertake any new journey, work, job, interview, marriage, business dealing, sale or purchase of any assets. It will not give good results. Every day this Rahu kaalam lasts for around one and half hours (90 minutes) but the duration differs according to the length of the time between sunrise to sunset.

To calculate Rahu kaalam, the day duration from Sunrise to Sunset, at a particular location is divided into eight equal parts. There is no Rahu Kaalam during the first period of any weekday. On Sunday it falls on 8th period, Monday 2nd period, Saturday 3rd period, Friday 4th period, Wednesday 5th period, Thursday 6th period and Tuesday 7th period. Rahu kaalam and Yama Ghandam are the two time periods which are especially considered inauspicious for any new undertakings.

What is Yantra ???

Yantra is the Sanskrit word for "instrument" or "machine". In vedic astrology yantra means symbols or geometric figures. A Yantra is essentially a diagram representing a Mantra or Chant which is used to achieve a specific objective. An Energized Yantra acts like a Machine to amplify the power of the mantras. Yantras carry spiritual significance and point the user to higher levels of consciousness. The Yantra provides a focal point that is a window into the absolute. In the most advanced phases, it is possible to attain union with God by the geometric visualization of a Yantra. A Yantra alone represents nothing only when it is awakened by mental concentration and meditation will the process of Resonance appear and the benefic macrocosmic energies will manifest themselves in the practitioner's Microcosm.

Yantras are created from various materials ranging from copper, silver, gold, bhojpatra and are even available in three dimensional form. The core of the Yantras is composed of one or several simple geometrical shapes like : dots, lines, triangles, squares, circles, swastika and lotuses etc. representing in different ways the subtle energies. For example the Dot signifies the focalized energy and its intense concentration. The Triangle is the symbol of Shakti, the feminine energy or aspect of Creation. The Six Points Star also known as David's Star. This form symbolically represents the union of Purusha and Prakriti or Shiva-Shakti, without which there could be no creation. Circle represent the rotation, in the series of the five fundamental elements it represents air. The Square is usually the exterior limit of the Yantra and symbolically, it represents the element earth. Swastika represents good luck, welfare, prosperity or spiritual victory.

Bija mantras usually represented as characters of Devanāgarī that correspond to the acoustic roots of a particular chakra or vritti. Sometimes we encounter other elements such as arrow points, tridents, swords, spikes included in the design of a Yantra with the purpose of representing vectors and directions of action for the Yantric energies. These yantras are often made on a particular date and time according to procedures defined in the vedas.

The intersection of two geometric forms represents forces that are even more intense than those generated by the simple forms. Such an interpenetration indicates a high level in the dynamic interaction of the correspondent energies. The empty spaces generated by such combinations are described as very efficient operational fields of the forces emanating from the centeral point of the Yantra. That is why we can very often encounter representations of Mantras in such spaces. Yantra and Mantra are complementary aspects of SHIVA and their use together is much more efficient than the use of one alone. At the basis of Yantra operation is something called "shape energy" or "form energy". In Yantra only the benefic and harmonious energies are used.

Yantras are also used for more mundane purposes to enhance the quality of life, to attract prosperity and abundance, even love, to heal and relieve health problems, to protect oneself from negative forces etc. Yantra is a very complex spiritual instrument in the tantric practice or Sadhana. It can calm and focus the activities of the mind and by its positive auto-suggestion it has a benefic impact on the health and psychic well being of a person.

Mantra with respective Yantra will bring more effective results. In ancient texts, Lord Shiva is supposed to have explained the mystical meaning of the Yantra to his consort, Goddess Parvati: "The Yantra is as essential to a god as oil is to the oil lamp or as a body is to a living human being". The Yantra is actually more powerful than a picture of a God which, to be energized, requires a Yantra to be affixed at its base or back. A Yantra always contains a Mantra associated with it. Just as the mind is a part of, yet different from the body, so is the Mantra from the Yantra. The Mantra is the mind consciousness while the Yantra is the form of the deity.

You can also buy Yantra for any specific purposes like Yantra for different planets, Yantra for happy married life, yantra to overcome enemies, yantra for wealth, luck, protection, business, education, health, love, sampurna mahayantra, yantra lockets.
