Supermoon Disaster 19 March 2011 ~ An Astrological Analysis

In astrology, a supermoon is a full or new moon that coincides with its closest position by the Moon to the Earth. The Moon's distance varies each month between approximately 354,000 km (220,000 miles) and 410,000 km (254,000 miles). In short, Earth, Moon and Sun are all in a line, with Moon in its nearest approach to Earth. The combined effect of the Sun and Moon on Earth's oceans, the tide, is greatest when the Moon is new or full. Full Moons during lunar perigees (such as in the case of supermoons) exert an even stronger tidal force, resulting in more extreme high and low tides.

On 19th March 2011 the moon will make its closest approach to Earth in almost 20 years. It will be will be only 221,556 miles away from earth. The Moon will be a few percent bigger and brighter in the sky, but our eye won’t really be able to feel the difference, so altogether this “Supermoon” will look exactly the same as it always does when it’s full. US astrologer Richard Nolle nameed this phenomena as “moonageddon,” coinciding with enormous storms, earthquakes and floods.

There were Supermoons in 1955, 1974
, 1992 and 2005 and these years had their share of extreme weather conditions and other natural events, too. British freelance weatherman John Kettley was quoted as saying “A moon can’t cause a geological event like an earthquake, but it will cause a difference to the tide. If that combines with certain weather conditions, then that could cause a few problems for coastal areas.”

If we check astrologically, on 19th march 2011 Moon will be in Leo opposite mars with neptune. Sun will be in Pisces (watery sign, ocean) with Jupiter and Uranus (sudden surprises, upheaval) and Mercury opposite retrograde Saturn in Virgo (an earthy sign, quakes). Saturn in Virgo square by Pluto in Sagittarius with Rahu and opposite Sun with Uranus in Pisces indicating Moon again can have tidal affect on the tectonic plates resulting another earthquake or sunami in the next 29 days.

Moleosophy ~ Study of Moles

Moles in Astrology

The study of moles is called "Moleosophy". Like palmistry, tarot and numerology, Moleosophy or the study of moles is also a branch of astrology Moleosophy helps to understand what the moles located in different parts of ones body mean. Usually moles are found by birth but it is observed that moles appear also during one’s life time and also disappear, change their size and color. This is an indication of change of fortune. A raised mole is called a wart. Moles on the right side of a male body and left of a female body is considered auspicious. Honey brown, emerald green, and red colored moles are considered more auspicious and benefic than black moles.

In Indian and Chinese Astrology, moles are interpreted as representing the destiny of the person. The influence of the planets on the person would start at the time of fetus formation in the mother’s womb. Some planets influence the fetus more and some less. These influences result into mole formation when focused at the surface of the body. As per astrology the significance of moles increases with the size of the mole.

The interpretation of moles and birthmarks depends upon two factors, their actual physical appearance and the part of the person's body that they appear upon. In Samketa Nidhi, Slokas ii-25, iv-16 and vi-5 clearly indicate that moles have definite effects. The moles on different body parts indicates the Zodiac sign by which the person is being dominated. Maha Shivaratri

Maha Shivaratri

Maha Shivaratri is the auspicious night of Lord Shiva, which falls on the Krishna Paksha Trayodashi/ Chaturdashi in the month of Falgun as per North Indian calendars and Magha Krishna Trayodasi/ Chaturdashi as per Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh calendars. Maha Shivaratri, the great grand night of Lord Shiva is being celebrated this Wednesday, the 2nd of March, 2011. Some Ashrams and Hindu communities in India will observing Shivratri on March 3rd as Chaturdasi Tithi is on March 3rd. The confusion regarding Shivratri date is because the night period during Chaturdashi tithi falls on March 2nd instead of March 3rd in India and western hemisphere. Amavasya starts during the night of March 3rd. This holy night of Maha Shivaratri is observed on the night before ‘amavasya’ or no moon day. On this night Lord Shiva is worshipped in a special form of Linga called ‘Lingodabhavamurti.’

The History of Mahashivratri

yy In the Puranas many myths, stories and legends explain the origin and significance of the festival Maha Shivaratri.

yy Once Lord Vishnu and Lord Bramha had an argue over each other’s prowess. Lord Shiva challenged both of them. He appeared as a flaming Linga and challenged the duo to measure the gigantic Linga. Lord Bramha, who took the form of a swan, and Lord Vishnu who became a boar and went to Netherland, were both unable to measure the Shivlinga. Then Lord Shiva came out of the Linga and declared himself as the most powerful.

yy Shiva was married to Parvati on this day. According to the legend when King Daksha, opposed Sati's marriage with Shiva. The King organized a yagnya and ignored Shiva’s presence and thereby insulted the latter publicly. Sati got angered by this and jumped into the sacrificial fire and ended her life. Lord Shiva unleashed his fury at the death of his wife by performing the violent dance, Taandav. He wiped out Daksha’s kingdom, undertook rigorous penance and retired to the Himalayas. The Gods, who feared that the severity of Shiva’s penance might bring an end to the world, revived Sati in the new avatar of Parvati.

yy According to another legend Lord Shiva consumed the pot of poison that emerged during the Samudra Manthan, to protect the world.

Maha Shivratri and Amavasya

The significance of Maha Shivaratri is closely associated with ‘Amavasya’ -- the no moon night as per traditional Hindu Calendar. Amavasya symbolically represents Kaliyuga or spiritual ignorance. Lord Shiva appeared just before the beginning of Kaliyuga to rid the world of evil and ignorance. Therefore Maha Shivratri is also celebrated to get rid of evil and ignorance.
